Point Lepreau is fuelled by natural uranium sourced from Western Canada. Instead of burning this fuel to generate electricity like we do with other fuel sources, nuclear power plants harness the heat created by nuclear fission (the splitting of uranium atoms). The Point Lepreau site also includes an integrated nuclear waste management facility to safely store used fuel bundles.
