New Brunswick is home to Atlantic Canada’s only nuclear power generating station. NB Power’s Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station is a CANDU-6 nuclear reactor that supplies approximately 40% of New Brunswick’s total electricity requirements. The electricity produced at Point Lepreau does not emit any carbon or GHGs, which we learned about from Riya, and it means that it doesn’t contribute to worsening the greenhouse effect.
